About the event

All Rights Reserved | Laila Bettermann & Anael Resnick | 12 min | 2014

Taboo - Social prohibition against names, activities, people and conversation subjects considered undesirable. Violating a taboo is seen as a despicable act. Tabu – Property title deed. When the house and its tenants want to tell a story but are silenced by the taboo, objects have to speak in their stead. A house turns into a tile, a landlord into a lock and a meeting into a cup of tea.

This is My Land | Tamar Erde | 93 min | 2015

How do the Palestinian and Israeli (Arab and Jewish) education systems teach the history of their nations? The film follows several Israeli and Palestinian teachers over one academic year. By observing their exchanges and confrontations with students, debates with the ministries curriculum and its restrictions,  viewers obtain an intimate glimpse into the profound and long lasting effect that the Israeli/Palestinian conflict transmits onto the next generation. Watch trailer.

Screening will be followed by speakers involved in Palestine solidarity in the Toronto District School Board and the Morris Winchevsky Shule.
